Hideout Ranch

February 12th - 18th, 2017

If you have photographic experience and want to build your portfolio,  join Judi Hagen and Phyllis Burchett for an exceptional opportunity to photograph horses during winter in the glistening snow.  Imagine horses stampeding through the snow on a sprawling ranch with snow-covered mountains and spectacular red cliffs as a backdrop.

The Hideout is an upscale 30,000 acre riding, horsemanship and working cattle guest ranch, East of Cody and Yellowstone National Park, at the base of the Bighorn Mountains.   The staff is enthusiastic and resides at the ranch year round.  The wranglers and cowboys are highly skilled and have excellent insight about horses.   The ranch has a beautiful, comfortable, spacious main lodge, surrounded by guest cabins.

Spend six nights/five days, with two shoots each day, in snowy conditions with cowboys working the horses in groups and individually.  There will be horses running through the snow, with and without riders, always a lot of action and excitement!   Weather permitting, cowboys and horses will be running through streams with splashing water.  Opportunities for portraits will be provided of the cowboys and cowgirls; sitting on fences, in doorways, with and without props.  There will be a variety of horses; paints, appaloosas, palominos, duns, sorrels, roans, grays and mustangs.  Opportunities will be provided to photograph model released cowboys in a variety of conditions and the tack and saddle room will be available for a variety of detail work.  The views are breathtaking and you will have a variety of backgrounds, large and small herds of horses running, you will come away with images for Stock or your portfolio.  http://phyllisburchettphoto.net/winterphotohorsetourhideout2017/

The Hideout strives to offer guests high-end pampering.  You will be treated to the best food cooked by an amazing chief, the food does not disappoint!  Each evening relax in your cozy cabin decorated with a touch of the west, on your cabin porch, play a game of pool and/or sit next to the fire and share images with one another.

Please note:  Expect snow and cold temperatures in Wyoming.  Please dress warm with  snow boots (good tread on the bottom), snow pants, hat, gloves and layering is suggested.  Hand warmers are helpful.  Photographing in the snow requires some walking with the possibility of deep snow and difficult or uneven footing at times.  Although we are not going hiking, we may move around to get closer to the horses in snowy conditions.  There will be transportation around the ranch for shoots.  This tour is geared for photographers intermediate to advanced, with experience and knowledge of their camera settings and equipment.  Feel free to ask for help, of course.

This is a unique opportunity to photograph horses in a range of situations with a very small group of photographers, a maximum of 12 participants.  Learn more about the ranch at: http://hideout.com
